Versace’s sister line Versus is more known for collaborating with fashion designers like Christopher Kane and J. W. Anderson, but this time around, it’s one of our favourite lady rappers taking the reins for a new capsule line. Meet the M.I.A x Versus Versace collection!
Creating 14 stand-out pieces, M.I.A was inspired by the many Versace rip-offs sold illegally on the street. ‘Versace designs have always been bootlegged’ she explained to The Telegraph. ‘So now it’s Versace bootlegging the bootleg for the bootleggers to bootleg the bootleg. I’m keeping that cycle going.’ That sure is a lot of bootlegging M.I.A…
The result is an exaggerated take on the Versus label, offering bright, out-there prints that have been described as ‘even more Versace than Versace’. The prints also reference the artwork from M.I.A’s second album ‘Kala’, putting her signature stamp on the designs.
We love the collection’s campaign, shot by photographer Jaime Martinez at the very East London markets where the knockoffs originally came from. Make like the models and wear this more-is-more collection for daytime outings, or use it as inspiration for your next party season look.
